The Evolution Of A Top Treo Accessory: Shield Holster2
Reviewed by Andrew
What’s the best case for a ‘naked’ Treo? If you had asked me this question a week ago I would have replied with my eyes closed that it was the Seidio Shield Holster – one of the top bestselling cases for the Treo for over a year now. However, this was before the release of the new Shield Holster2 which was developed because some Treonauts had experienced ‘scratches’ (including me with very minor ones) on the top right corner of their Treo where the latch held it in place.

StarStarStarStarStar dispite reviews to the contrary

Pros:  sturdy design, easy in and out, good screen protection
Cons:  placement of clip has ejected my SD card ever, not a fan of swivel clips in general

After having tried several different holsters, as well as a few pouches, I have found my all time favorite. Seido does seem to offer a sturdy product, having also used the first generation of this holster. My complaint against that holster was that, while very resistant to wear, it did scratch up my phone.

I have now had this holster for about 4 months now and it has withstood my considerable abuse quite well during that time. It is easy enough to get it in and out one handed, though admittedly this did require some amount of muscle memory training.

I would highly recommend this holster to anyone who is looking for a low profile, durable, carrier for your phone.

Pros:  Looks good, feels good, works well...
Cons:  Take some effort to remove from holster

I was a little worried about this holster after reading the negative feedback on this site; however, I have found the holster to be outstanding. The phone has never popped out, dropped or otherwise. The spring loaded hinge requires nimble fingers to remove the phone one-handed. The hinge has never ejected my sd card. Overall I'm very pleased with the case.

One more tip. I "skinned" my treo 700 with a "shieldzone" protective cover. I was concerned the form fitting holster would not accommodate the skinned treo. Because the skin from shieldzone is super thin I was also concerned the holster made for skinned treos would be too large. If faced with a similar dilema get the unskinned holster. Again the shieldzone skin is so thin the treo fits in the unskinned holster without any problems.
StarStarStarStarStar Works great with a modification

The convenience of a holster is great in the workplace. However, without a minor modification to the (phone)clip, you WILL experience "phone-on floor" syndrome if you use this holster! (Ask me how I know.)
The phone-clip needs to be longer, to hold the Treo securely. I pop-riveted an aluminum extension piece (shaped like a backwards "C") onto the clip, and used some adhesive-backed felt cut the same shape to prevent scratches, and it works great.
I like the protection the inward-facing holster provides. But, do the modification or dont buy it.
StarStarStarStarStar Overall, a really nice holster
User: Steve Rowe, May 9, 2007

Pros:  Holds Treo very securely in place
Cons:  The swivel clip is somewhat loose

I like the way this holster is built and it holds the Treo very nicely in place. Getting it in and out with one hand is pretty easy and I don't worry at all about it falling out. I've never really worried that my SD card would come out, but it's nice that the latch covers it and makes sure it isn't going anywhere. Also, I have the ShieldZone "skin" on my Treo and it fits nicely.

On the downside, the latch that covers the SD card also "rakes" across it when inserting/removing my Treo. In addition, it catches the speaker on/off switch, so I am a little worried that it might cause some damage to the switch down the road. Also, although I like that the the swivel clip is low profile, the latch that locks it in place gives it somewhat too much play and it will spin too easily.

Overall though, it's a good holster and I would buy it again.

this replaced another hloster from helix. it broke and this one lets my phone drop too frequently. i think i'm giving up on holsters and will try a side pouch.
