Okay,

I have tried a lot and I mean a lot of bluetooth headsets. I must say that this headset so far is one of my top two, & probably after another week without disappointment will take the top notch without dispute. Previously I found the Jawbone to be the best, followed by the Plantronics Voyager 510 (except its connectivity issues with the newer Treos). The Discovery 665 has great DSP like the Jawbone, better incoming volume, is lighter and more comfortable. I have a Treo 755p and this headset works great with it. It connects fast, never loses pairing, and even with the bluetooth connectivity problems of the Treo it works flawlessly. I can hear others well, even too loud at times. I have also had no complaints about muffled voice, or sound quality at all on the receiving end.

The only gripe I have is the battery life, but that is remedied with the car charger and the remove from sleeve to answer feature. This is a well done and polished headset. I would recommend highly for any Treo user. Great job Plantronics...

Ok, after reading the top reviews on the 655, I had to wait for the 665, because by default, all the kinks are worked out with the next phase up right? Ok, for starters I have a 700p through Verizon, notorious for flatout horrible bluetooth connectivity. I have owned some of the top rated headsets, such as the Jabra JX10.

Here are my first impressions after pairing the 665 today just 2 hours ago.
1) First thing I look for is how loud these bluetooth headsets are, typically they never are loud enough to hear your caller-the 665 has great volume, very good.
2) Fits great in the ear with the eargel, and along with the earhook, the 665 feels very stable. Another physical attribute is that it's very light.
3) After speaking with two people, I purposely did not tell them that I was on the earpiece. They never said a word to me on how I sounded, and I checked a few times claiming there was alot of noise in the house, and nothing was said.
4) I noticed that the 2.0 connection was working in favor of the 700p's bluetooth inablilities. The headset would lose connection with my 700p, but quickly reconnect after a second or so.
5) Out of the box, I was disappointed there wasn't a wall charger included, but I knew that going into the purchase.

Alas, I cannot comment on how the 665 does in real life situations to which the headset is noted as a "roadwarrior's dream". That will be tomorrow's test, which will consist of highway driving, and walking through various environmental conditions.

My first impression is that it will hold up to the hype, but I can't give it a full 5 stars until then. I will report later, but for now I'M VERY POSITIVE.

After my initial review of the 665 during the first two hours of the 'open box' process, I have made a few other observations on the 665 after one week of business use.

First of all the overall quality of the headset is excellent. Great design, build, and stability as far as fit. Secondly, great volume on the headset, which as I stated before in my initial interview is the first thing that I look for. Third, inbound/outbound quality is also excellent, people on the other end only complained when I was in very windy conditions, but walking into noisy restaurants, crowded hospital cafeterias, and Starbucks proved to be very successful.

Three complaints which I personally believe are minor, but need to be noted:

First) if you go more than 5 feet away from your handset, the 665 begins to experience static. I have found this to be somewhat annoying if I get out of my car to get something in the trunk, or when I'm filling up with gas if I decide to leave my 700p in the car.

Second) the limited BT Stack of the 700P makes the 665 fall short as far as connectivity. I have noticed that the 665 will unpair itself during the day while in stanby mode, of which, the 2.0 connectivity of the 665 automatically re-pairs it with my 700P almost automatically within a second or so. I have not experienced any issues while on calls only between calls during stanby mode.

Third) something of which is on my highlist is BATTERY LIFE. I talk an average of 2.5 hours a day, combined with a full day of standby time, I have experienced that you run out of juice by the end of the day. Luckily, the included car charging unit comes in very handy in remedying this, also is that you can purchase the optional spare battery attachment from Plantronics (the 655 come with this attachment included), which increases talk time, of which I have not done so I cannot comment on the extra talk/stanby time with that particular attachment upgrade.

With that being said, I cannot give a full 5 star rating based on the last 3 items I discussed. HOWEVER, with all the bluetooth headsets of I have owned, including the highly rated Jabra JX10, I have to say this is the best headset I have owned thus far.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS HEADSET TO OWNERS OF THE VERIZON 700P.
