How accurate are the yardage measurements?
Our current tests show a consistent accuracy of 1-3 yards depending on the
strength of the satellites and your surroundings. Sometimes the measurements can
be within an inch. (Remember this is the same technology that delivers missiles
into windows from hundreds of miles away)
How do I add my golf course?
Take one hour out of your day and simply walk the course, or do it on your next
round. We have built a wizard into the program, which will take you step by step
through mapping a golf course. The wizard was designed with one thought in mind.
Simplicity… The wizard takes you step by step through the process of entering
the golf course yards, pars, and index and then through the GPS surveying. The
wizard instructs you to proceed to the first green and then go to the front of
the green. Once there the wizard asks you "if you are there". Press yes and the
wizard just took the way point. Now it will ask you to go to the middle of the
green, so on and so forth.
Do you have to input the scorecard yardages prior to obtaining the way points
for every hole?
Yes currently this is the process. Allow yourself some time to input the golf
course data into the program prior to going out on the golf course to attempt
the surveying. You must do all this at one time. You cannot take breaks through
the process. Please also keep fully charged batteries in your Treo. There is
nothing more frustrating than getting to the last hole and running out of
power..
I don't have a way of measuring the greens. How do I know where the center
is?
Well you don't exactly. So take a good guess!!! For people who aren't as serious
we recommend them to pace off the green and then divide their pace in two and
take that many steps back to the center of the green. Obviously this is not the
approach we take but it will work just fine especially since you can't get the
front and back of the green wrong
How many points are supported per hole?
We currently support 3 points per hole, plus 4 additional points. The front,
center, and back of the green. The other 4 points are designated by the owner of
the handheld unit, which may include sand traps, water hazards and other key
obstacles.
Do I have to pay a subscription to utilize the satellites?
No. You are already paying for the service through federal tax dollars. Nobody
can charge for the service because the satellites are owned the US federal
government courtesy of the taxpayers.
Do weather conditions and terrain affect the accuracy of iGolfgps?
Yes. Both can affect the accuracy of the device. If you are in a deep canyon or
surrounded by buildings you may have difficulty receiving accurate yardage
readings. Also if it is very overcast the signal can be affected, although not
usually.
What is the difference between iGolfgps and other yardage readers such as
binoculars, laser finders, and golf cart based systems?
iGolfgps utilizes very sophisticated technology that allows precise measurements
to occur from any position on the earth unlike conventional binoculars or laser
finders. Laser finders unfortunately cannot tell you how far you are from the
hole if you can't see it. So if you are playing a course that takes a lot of
turns the laser finder is useless. Golf cart based systems are extremely
accurate and beneficial to golf courses that charge a lot of money to golfers.
Unfortunately most golf courses can't afford these high priced systems so
golfers wanting accurate yardage distances don't have any alternatives.
